Do you remember the last time you visited the dentist? If not, you may want to visit a local dentist soon, as it is recommended that you visit the dentist for a routine check-up every six months. In some cases, you may be advised to visit a dentist in Nottingham once a year however this varies from patient to patient.
At Hilton Dental Clinic, we understand the importance of maintaining good oral health and offer treatments within preventive dentistry to ensure that any dental issues are detected early and treated before they worsen. So if you are long overdue for a routine dental check-up, why not visit our dental practice and be seen by our experienced dentist in Nottingham.
Dental hygiene at Hilton Dental Clinic
At Hilton Dental Clinic, we understand that oral hygiene is vital to a patient’s general health, which is why we offer treatments in order to prevent and detect any signs of decay or infection, whilst also promoting good oral health. One way in which we promote good oral health in our patients is by recommending effective tooth brushing techniques in order to ensure your teeth remain clean and free from bacteria and disease. One of these techniques that we advise on at our clinic is interdental brushing.
Interdental brushing
Whilst brushing your teeth twice a day will always help to ensure that food that may be stuck between your teeth is removed, there are hard to reach places in our mouths which may not be effectively cleaned by just brushing teeth alone. In addition to flossing after meals, our dentist in Nottingham may also recommend that you use interdental brushes.
Interdental brushes are small brushes which are specially designed to clean areas of your mouth where a regular toothbrush is unable to reach. Interdental brushes are used mainly to clean in between teeth and in any gaps. The use of interdental brushes is important as they remove food debris and plaque which if left can contribute to bad breath, dental decay and even gum disease.
Interdental brushes also come in various sizes which gives you the option to choose a size which is most suitable for you and ensures that you never need to force a brush in between your teeth. For your front teeth, it is recommended that you use a finer brush and by turning the brush slightly, it will be able to brush between the teeth comfortably. Upon removing the brush, any plaque and debris will also be removed. This should be repeated several times to ensure that the space is clean.
For your teeth towards the back of your mouth, it is advised to use a larger brush using the same technique. In order to ensure that you are using the brush effectively it is also advised to curve the brush slightly and not bend at a right angle.
Interdental brushes should be used daily as part of your normal oral hygiene routine to ensure clean, healthy teeth and gums. This will help stop the building up of tartar and plaque which can cause so many of the dental problems seen by our dentist.
