Composite bonding at Hilton Dental

Composite bonding is a minimally invasive way to repair chipped, discoloured, or decaying teeth, without causing any damage to the tooth. The process of composite bonding involves a tooth coloured composite resin being added to your chipped or broken tooth, which is then carefully shaped, sculpted, and polished to look exactly like your other teeth.

Composite bonding can help to repair:

  • Broken, chipped, or misshapen teeth
  • Uneven spaces or small gaps between teeth
  • Discolouration or stains that aren’t removable
  • Cases of sensitivity caused by gum recession
  • Teeth that are suffering from minor tooth decay
Louise Fretwell

I have recently joined the Hilton Dental Clinic as a new patient.  It is an extremely welcoming practice and I was put at ease immediately. The receptionist was very informative and friendly. I am quite a nervous patient and the dentist made me feel very relaxed and was very gentle. I would thoroughly recommend this clinic.

Your smile is in safe hands

Dr. Missan is our professional implant dentist and surgeon. In addition to his dental qualification and years of experience, he has completed a two-year training programme in specialist implant dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons of England; the gold standard qualification in dentistry specific to dental implants.

He has also been awarded the advanced certificate in implant surgery in recognition of his additional surgical skills in block bone and maxillary sinus grafting, making it possible for implants to be placed in areas where there has been extensive bone loss after tooth removal. Dr. Missan is one of only a handful of dentists to have received this recognition in the UK, so you know your smile is in the safest, most experienced hands with Hilton Dental.

The benefits of composite bonding

There are lots of reasons why composite bonding is a great solution to broken or chipped teeth over other restorative dental treatments.

Cover imperfections
Composite bonding is an easy way to fix any minor imperfections, boost your confidence, and renew your smile.

Minimally invasive
Because composite resin is moulded straight onto the tooth, there’s no need for pain relief or drilling of the tooth.

Quick treatment
Composite bonding is a straightforward treatment, which means it can usually be carried out in just one appointment.

Long lasting
If you take good care of your restored teeth, you can expect your composite bonding to last five to seven years.

Composite bonding treatment process

We’ll have an initial consultation with you to discuss your smile goals, and create a unique treatment plan to start your journey to a beautiful smile.

Composite bonding doesn’t involve any drilling to the tooth or require a numbing injection, so in most cases it can be done in just one appointment.

The treatment process:
1. We start by selecting the colour of the material to use for your composite bonding that will match your other teeth, and suit the results you want to achieve.

2. From there, we gently scratch the tooth’s surface and coat it with bonding liquid, which helps the composite bonding material to attach and stay on your tooth.

3. We then apply the composite resin onto your tooth and sculpt it so that it matches your other teeth, and then use an intense ultraviolet light to safely harden it.

4. Once the resin has hardened, we’ll further shape, sculpt, and polish the tooth so it matches the natural surface of your other teeth.

Frequently asked questions about composite bonding at Hilton Dental Clinic

How long does it take?

Depending on how many teeth are receiving treatment, the treatment for composite bonding should take about an hour.

How long can I expect my composite bonding to last?

In most cases, you can expect your composite bonding to last between five and seven years, depending on how well you take care of them! They may need to be replaced at some stage, but your dentist will be able to give you more information about the longevity of your restorations.

Can I whiten my teeth if I have composite bonding?

Unfortunately not! Whitening can remove any existing stains on the resin material, but it will not change their original shade. We recommend you have your teeth whitened prior to getting dental restorations so they can be matched to your newly whitened teeth.

Is there anything I can’t eat with dental restorations?

We use very strong, high quality composite material so you can still eat most of the things you normally would. You should take care when eating very hard foods that could potentially crack or damage your teeth.
